Whatever happened to “over the river and through the woods?”
It looks like a lot of us are planning to go a lot further than grandma’s house this Thanksgiving, according to travel tracker Google Flights — that is, if Nana and Pop Pop happen to live in Disney World.
Orlando was ranked No. 1 on a list that claims to have revealed our deepest desires — and our travel plans — for the upcoming national day of gratitude and glory.
And the home of the House of Mouse wasn’t the only town on Google’s list that sounded a little too much fun to be everyone heading to spend a few restless nights on the sofas with the family.
For example, it’s the beach resort of Cancun, known for its all-inclusive resorts and sandy beaches, that comes right in at no. 2 – although it is possible that everyone can go there to enjoy the turkey dishes that the Yucatan Peninsula is known for.
The Mayans are said to have honored Turkey dressed in festive clothing, unique to the region, according to the American Bird Conservancy. The bird appears on local tables throughout the year, in various forms.
Google Flights said the list was compiled based on the frequency of travel inquiries between Nov. 24 and December. 1 – here is the full list of the ten most wanted.

Thanksgiving week can be extremely difficult for travelers — and this year, the hordes are likely to be even bigger, as the number of passengers at US airports has already broken multiple records in 2024.
The Sunday after Thanksgiving is expected to once again be the busiest day at any airport all year, according to Nerdwallet, which said the number of travelers that day is expected to set a new record.
On the other hand, the celebration of Thanksgiving usually gives way to one of the most affordable times of the year to go out – the first half of December.
The quiet time between America’s two major holidays is sometimes talked about as one of the best travel times in any country that isn’t a holiday shopping hot spot, at least — thanks to lower airfares, better rates hotels and large elbow room.
