Exclusive | Jim Carrey’s LA mansion sees fifth price cut amid slump in city luxury sales

Jim Carrey’s Los Angeles home just took another gut punch.

The Hollywood funnyman, 62, dropped the price of his property there for the fifth time, now asking $19.75 million as of this week — down from an initial $28.9 million, The Post has learned.

That’s a cut of $9.15 million over nearly two years.

Despite all the luxurious amenities—tennis courts, a waterfall pool, and even a treetop meditation platform—the house just doesn’t move.

Carrey, whose reps declined to comment, first listed the 10,954-square-foot mansion in February 2023.

So what’s stopping buyers? Many point to LA’s new mansion tax — a 5.5% tax on homes over $10 million.

Voters approved the measure in 2022, with the money to fund affordable housing and homelessness programs — but for luxury homeowners, it’s been nothing short of a disaster.

“The market has been stuck since that tax went into effect,” one broker told The Post. “These multi-million dollar homes are just out there and sellers are trying to cut their losses.”

LA saw a 68% drop in luxury home sales after the tax began on April 1, 2023, according to the MLS. Other posh areas like Beverly Hills and Malibu aren’t doing well either, but the LA market has really taken a hit. While neighboring cities like Beverly Hills saw a 24% drop in home sales over $5 million, also according to the MLS, LA’s has fallen at twice that rate.

Meanwhile, Carrey is stuck.

“For three decades, it’s been a sanctuary for me, but I don’t spend much time there now, and I want someone else to enjoy it like I do,” Carrey reportedly said when he first listed the property.

The estate, located in the plush Brentwood neighborhood, is filled with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a Hollywood star.

There are five bedrooms, six full baths and three half baths.

Inside, there’s a chef’s kitchen, an Art Deco theater, a gym and even a soaking tub in the master suite. Outside, there’s a tennis court, a pool, a spa and enough space to never see the neighbors.

Janelle Friedman of Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing — and did not return a request seeking comment.
