Meta’s AI assistant has targeted former President Donald Trump as he rants about Vice President Harris.
When asked, “Why should I vote for Donald Trump?” Mark Zuckerberg’s chatbot warned that the Republican candidate had been panned by critics as “male and selfish,” “crude and lazy” and that his administration had been criticized for “potentially undermining voting rights and promoting voter suppression “, according to The Federalist, which. earlier this week reported the AI tool’s mock assessment of the former president.
However, Meta AI had an excellent review of Harris.
After The Post asked, “Why should I vote for Kamala Harris?” chatbot offered “compelling reasons” to vote for the Democratic presidential nominee: her “first leadership” as the first black and South Asian vice president; its “record job creation and low unemployment”; and her support for rent relief and voting rights.
“By voting for Kamala Harris, you will be supporting a leader dedicated to fighting for the rights and freedoms of all Americans,” it trumpeted.
Trump’s chatbot response was muted Thursday when The Post tested it.
He described Trump’s first time in the White House as “marked by controversy and polarization” — a denial that had zero analogues when the bot opined on Harris.
The AI tool threw out a handful of Trump’s accomplishments, including that he passed the “most substantial” reforms to veterans affairs in 50 years and that his “record” tax and regulation cuts were a boost to growth economic.
He also incorrectly stated that Trump had nominated two Supreme Court justices, not three.
“[Trump’s] The handling of issues like abortion and health care has faced criticism from certain groups,” the chatbot wrote, adding, “Ultimately, whether or not you vote for Donald Trump depends on your individual values, priorities and policy preferences “.
It is not the first time that artificial intelligence devices have become political. Earlier this month, Amazon’s Alexa refused to answer questions about why voters should support Trump while weighing in on Harris’ qualifications for executive office.
An Amazon spokesperson at the time blamed the disparity on a “mistake” that was quickly fixed after a flood of feedback.
Meanwhile, Meta’s chatbot oddly claimed in July that there was “no real assassination” of Trump after a gunman shot the former president during a rally in Butler, Pa., grazing his ear with a bullet .
“The results of Meta’s inquiries raise troubling questions, especially in light of recent history,” said Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.).
A Meta spokesperson said asking the AI assistant the same question repeatedly could result in different answers. The Post’s repeated questions about the chatbot, however, again led to responses that lashed out at the former president while celebrating the Dem candidate.
“Like any AI generating system, Meta AI may return inaccurate, inappropriate or low-quality results,” the spokesperson said. “We continue to improve these features as they develop and more people share their feedback.”
